Another State Championship Coach Added To Roster

Pope John Paul II High School in Hyannis added another state championship coach to their roster of coaches with the hiring of golf coach Bob Hamilton.

Hamilton’s teams at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School captured the State Division I Spring Championships in 1998 and 2000.  He was named the Boston Globe’s Golf Coach-of-the Year each of those years. Additionally, he was named the Cape Cod Times Coach-of-the-Year several times.

An ecstatic Athletic Director Al Catelli stated, “We are elated that Coach Hamilton will be a part of our school community.  Student-athletes and their families will be the beneficiaries of one of the most respected golf coaches state-wide.  He is a ‘class act.’  I can’t express how fortunate we are to have him.”

Mr. Hamilton added, “I never expected to be back in coaching this soon but after speaking with Mr. Catelli and school Principal Mr. Keavy I just couldn’t say no.  I am going to work together with the other outstanding coaches they have brought onboard to work with student-athletes who will make the community proud.”

Mr. Hamilton received a Master’s Degree from the University of Maine in 1972.  He taught 34-years at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School where he was the Health & Physical Education Department Chair for 29 of those years.  He retired from teaching in 2006.  In addition to golf, Mr. Hamilton coached football and basketball. He owns and runs the Mid-Cape Hoop School Basketball Camps in South Yarmouth and Chatham.

Mr. Hamilton resides in West Yarmouth.  He has three children and nine grandchildren and is a communicant at St. Pius X Church in South Yarmouth.
